Adult Beginner Pointe Classes - Devon

If you’ve always wanted to wear a pair of pointe shoes and experience the feeling of dancing on pointe, now is your chance.

This class is also perfect for adults who may have done pointe work when they were younger and would like to get back on pointe safely and gently.

Beginner Pointe & Pointe Prep - A combined class

A 1hr class for clients who want to prepare for pointe work or who have been invited to progress to beginner pointe class.

We recommend at least 12 months of ballet fitness classes before you start these classes. You will not be invited to go on pointe or advised to purchase any pointe shoes until you have completed a course of Pointe Prep classes. Your instructor will let you know when you are ready to start pointe work. If you bring pointe shoes but have not been invited to dance on pointe, you will not be allowed to wear them in class.

Where is Adult Beginner Pointe?

Currently, our Adult Beginner Pointe & Pointe Prep studio class is held at Torquay Squash & Leisure Club.

When?

Every Saturday at 11.30am.

This is a 30 mins class and cost is £5 per class.

What do I need to bring?

For Pointe Prep:

  • Ballet shoes or socks

  • A yoga mat or towel for stretching

For Beginner Pointe:

  • A pair of well-fitted pointe shoes.

  • Experience in ballet. You will need to have completed at least a year’s worth of regular adult ballet classes to attend this class. Alternatively, you must have experience of RAD, ISTD or Cecchetti ballet to a minimum of Grade 6 when you were younger.

How and where do I get pointe shoes fitted?

We strongly advise against buying pointe shoes online. It is important that you go to a reputable pointe shoe seller and have your pointe shoes fitted by a qualified fitter.

Most good dance shops are able to fit pointe shoes well but it’s a good idea to call or email ahead to check that they have a good level of stock, choice of brands and a qualified fitter available on the day you wish to visit.

In Devon, we recommend ShoeZoo in Torquay who offer fittings by appointment.

Will I be safe from injury in this class?

We take safety very seriously - especially when it comes to pointe work.

If your instructor deems your ankle strength, turnout or general posture to be insufficient, you will be asked to remove your pointe shoes and continue the class in socks or soft ballet shoes. This will be for your own safety and to prevent the chance of serious injury.

If your instructor notices that your pointe shoes are not well fitted, you will be asked to remove them and complete the class in socks or soft ballet shoes. Ill-fitting pointe shoes can result in injury.

Bu signing up to join this class, you agree to our class Terms and Conditions and take full liability for your own safety, pointe shoes, pointe-shoe fit and ability to dance to the standards stated above.
